John Thayer Wales “Whaler,” 70, of Camillus, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at home. He was born in New Britain, CT, and graduated from Nichols College in 1967 with a degree in business management. John was a pharmaceutical representative for Sher Ploug and a representative for Spalding Sporting Goods and the best darn bartender in New York. He enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting and his Boston Red Sox and Dallas Cowboys and was a voracious reader.
He was predeceased by his parents Paul and Edith Wales, his grandparents, aunts, uncles and his dog Kiki.
Surviving are his loving wife, Sophia Candis Wales, a brother Richard (Elizabeth) Wales of CT., sons John Wales of Delaware and Robert (Tracy) Wales of CT, grandson Paul Wales, brothers-in-law, Michael Teachout of Liverpool and James Teachout of Florida, and cousins.
Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, at the Maurer Funeral Home Moyers Corners, 3541 Route 31, Baldwinsville with an Elks Service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Humane Association of CNY, 4915 ½ W. Taft Rd., Liverpool, NY 13088 or to SPCA, 5878 E. Malloy Rd., Syracuse, NY 13211 or to Hospice of CNY, 990 Seventh North St., Liverpool, NY 13088.
