John J. Machan

John J. Machan, 79, of Syracuse, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, in Mercy Health & Rehabilitation Center, Auburn. Born in Jordan the son Sidney and Frances McLane Machan, John lived in Syracuse for the past several years. He was a freight conductor for Conrail for 28 years before retiring 1982. John served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He was also in the Army Reserves. John was a member and past commander of the Mattydale VFW Post 3146, a member of the Baldwinsville VFW Post 143 and he was a past VFW county commander.
Surviving are a daughter Brenda Champion of Cato, a son James Machan, a sister Frances Jane Moynihan of East Syracuse, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Calling hours: 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug, 29, at the Bush Funeral Home 120 E. Main St., Elbridge. Services to follow at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Joseph Bergin officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
