James W. McDonald

unknown - August 5, 2013

James W. “Jim” McDonald, III, 68 died at his home in Fabius on Aug. 5, 2013. A native of Syracuse, Jim graduated from St. John the Evangelist High School, LeMoyne College (1967) and with an MBA from Syracuse University. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran. His working career was in real estate development, beginning with Pyramid Company in Syracuse, followed by Edgewater Company in North Carolina, and Konover Company and Berkshire Development Company with offices in CT & MA. He and his wife returned recently to live in the Syracuse area after making their home for many years in Simsbury, CT.
Jim was the eighth of 11 children born to James W. McDonald, II and Eileen Sinnott McDonald. His parents and eldest sister, Mary Theresa (Ralph) Burbank have predeceased him. He is survived by his loving wife, companion and partner in life, Ann Harrington McDonald; four sons, James “Jake” William IV (Elizabeth) of Broomall, PA, Daniel (Lisa) of Edina, MN, Ryan and Jonathan of Simsbury, CT; his cherished grandchildren, Rose, Annabelle, Jack and Lauren; his sisters, Sally Seeley, Kate Cahill (Henry Sienkiewicz), Sheila (Gregory) Piraino, Pat Boyle, Maureen (Skip) Shigo, Coleen (Mark) Shaughnessy all of the Syracuse area, Sister Ellen McDonald of Maryknoll, N.Y., Sarah (Edward) Parent of Hamburg, PA and Arlene (Dennis) Costello of Atlanta, GA; and many niece and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
As a parent Jim achieved an enviable closeness with his sons, a trait that extended to other young people who loved and respected him as a second father figure. His thoughtfulness of others is remembered by many, along with his integrity, quick wit and sense of humor, and his love, dedication and loyalty to his family and co-workers. His presence and personality were welcomed and enjoyed in any setting and he will be greatly missed.
