Walter R. Buffum, Jr.
Walter R. Buffum, Jr., 78, of Liverpool, died Wednesday at University Hospital. Born in Syracuse, Walter lived in Liverpool for the past 18 years. He also maintained a winter home in Dundee, Florida for the past 15 years and was the son of the late Mildred (Sherman) and Walter R. Buffum, Sr..
Walter was a US Navy veteran serving during the Korean War. He retired in 1996 after 40 years as a millwright at Crouse Hinds in Syracuse. Walter was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Baldwinsville, the American Legion, Crouse Hinds 25 Year Club, and a former member of Pastime Athletic Club.
He was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, the former Norma (Coleman), in 1995.
Surviving are his three children: John (Karen) of Clay, Walter III (Anita) of Cicero, and Janet (Steve) Covert of Arden, NC; his companion of 16 years, Joan Stephens of Liverpool; five siblings: Barbara Viertel of WA, Mildred Rivello of MA, Beverly Perkins of Liverpool, William of Cicero, and Robert of PA; five grandchildren: Michael, David, Michelle, Kelly, and Dylan; and his four great grandsons: Collin, Miles, Mason, and Nicholas.
