Joyce Swales Romano

Joyce A. (Swales) Romano, 87, of Liverpool passed away on Saturday, April 7, in her home with family by her side.
She was born on Sept. 24, 1925 on a farm in Hemmingford, Quebec. During WWII, she worked at an ammunition factory in Canada. She immigrated to the states as a young woman and began her life in Syracuse. Soon after, she married and raised her family in Liverpool. She was most known as the crossing guard for Liverpool Elementary and Liverpool Middle School on Route 370. She was an avid reader, a brilliant cook, but most of all she was devoted to her family.
She is survived by Larry J. Romano Sr., her four children, Joseph R. Romano, Lisa J. Romano, Larry J. Romano Jr. and Nicola P. Romano, her grandchildren, Nicole Romano, Jolee Clement, Joseph Mario Romano, Briella Romano, Nicola Romano Jr. and Ilario Romano, her great-granddaughter Annie Grey Clement, her sister Nancy Winslow and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hour: 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday April 10, at the Maurer Funeral Home, 300 Second St., Liverpool with a memorial service to follow at 7pm. Burial will be at 10 .m. Thursday, April 11, graveside, at Onondaga Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Central New York and the Special Olympics.
