Sidney Grumet, 84, passed away on Sept. 8, 2012. in Palm Beach, Fla. He was born on Sept. 21, 1927, in Brooklyn, N.Y. Sidney was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
He is predeceased by his wife of 64 years, May Grumet, and survived by his daughters Shelley and husband Mark Schimelman, and Rebecca and husband Jim Smith, grandchildren Sondra (Schimelman) Aresty, Rachel Schimelman, Ben Schimelman, Brian Smith and Eric Smith, and great-granddaughter, Hazel Aresty. He is also survived by his siblings, Harold Grumet, Florence Nath, Scotty Grumet and Sol Grumet.
As a young man he served in the Merchant Marines as a radio officer. He was a self-educated man who worked in the paper and plastics industry, first for the Frank Sayford Paper Co. in Brooklyn, N.Y., and then as a manufacturer’s rep, forming his own firm, Sidney Grumet Sales in Syracuse. He was an active member of the Rotary Club of Cazenovia, supporter of the Cazenovia Public Library, and served for many years as member of the board of his condominium association. He was a long time resident of Syracuse, Cazenovia and Palm Beach, Fla, and was known to all as a vibrant and kind man.
