Julia A. Barna Sinay, 101, of Syracuse left this earthly realm on Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, to be with the Lord.
Mrs. Sinay was born on April 23, 1911, on the family farm in Waymart, PA, the last surviving of eight children of Nicholas and Anna Barna. After marrying John Sinay of Jessup, PA, they moved to Syracuse in 1942 where they raised two children, Nancy and Edward.
As a member and benefactor of SS Peter & Paul Orthodox Catholic Church, she was very active in the church women’s club and many other church activities. A strong believer of family ties, honesty and living as a devout Christian, Mrs. Sinay was a positive influence to all whose lives she touched.
She was predeceased by her husband, John, on Dec. 9, 1983 and by her son, Edward J. Sinay, Sr. on Dec. 17, 2010.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Dennis Tarasevich of Chandler, AZ; daughter-in-law, Patricia A. Sinay of Syracuse; six grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren, in whom she took great pride.
Christian burial service: 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at SS Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, 401 Hamilton St, Syracuse with committal following in St. Tikhon of Zadonsk Orthodox Monastery Cemetery, South Canaan, PA. Calling hours: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at Fergerson Funeral Home, 215 South Main St, North Syracuse with the Resurrection Service at 6:30 pm.
