Irene Rosemary (Schardt) Skidmore passed away peacefully in her Chittenango home on Oct. 24, 2012, surrounded by loving family.
Irene was born in East Syracuse, NY on Feb. 8, 1925 to Rose Nauer and Louis Schardt. A graduate of East Syracuse High School, she married Roy L. Skidmore, Jr. on Apr. 24, 1943 in Waycross, GA. Irene worked at the Easy Washer factory, and later at the Canteen Restaurant in Chittenango and Carpenter Steel in Syracuse. Irene was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Chittenango, serving as a bookkeeper and member of the Altar and Rosary Society, and had been an active member of the N. Chittenango Fire Auxiliary.
Survivors: Mrs. Skidmore is survived by her husband of 69 years, Roy Jr.; daughters Joanne (Steven) Treistman of Falmouth, MA., Barbara (Kenneth) Smith of Kirkville, Irene (Marvin) Arnold of Morrisville, and Mary Skidmore of Buskirk; Sons John (Vicki Goyer) Skidmore of Munice, IN and Daniel Skidmore of Syracuse. She had 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Irene was predeceased by her grandchildren Nathan Skidmore in 2001 and Suzanne McPherson in 2009, as well as her sisters Vera Russ, Ruth Clarke and brothers Eric, Edwin, and Louis Schardt.
Calling hours: from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26 at St. Patrick’s Church, 1341 Murray Drive, Chittenango, NY 13037. Mass of Christian burial: 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at St. Patrick’s and burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Chittenango.
