Helen Warren Richmond Hencle, 95, passed away on Sept. 16, 2012, in Las Vegas, NV. Born March 26, 1917, in Syracuse, Helen graduated from Port Byron schools and received a BA degree in art and textile design from Syracuse University. She taught school until her marriage to Van Rensselaer Richmond on March 24, 1939. Van was a military doctor and they traveled widely until retiring to Shelton, WA. They attended the Episcopal Church. After Dr. Richmond's death in 1975, Helen made her home with her son, Van R. Richmond II, and family in Las Vegas. On April 29, 1988 she married a long-time family friend, Maynard Hencle, and moved to Hencle's Berry Patch near Baldwinsville. They attended the Baldwinsville Presbyterian Church. After Mr. Hencle's death on May 17, 1995 Helen moved back to Las Vegas and made her home with close friends, the Powells-James, Betsy, Jacalyn and Ashley. Helen was also preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Maud Warren, brother Robert and son Van.
She is survived by granddaughters, Tina and Rebekah Richmond; great-granddaughters Ashley and Lily; 3 stepdaughters Nancy (Windsor) Abbott, Carol (Peter) Merrell, and Susan ( JC) Keister;daughter-in-law Deborah Richmond, and many nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren. Helen was known as "Grandma Helen" because of the love and caring she had for everyone and will be greatly missed.
Helen will be laid to rest in Lyons, N.Y. next to her first husband.
