Fred J. Vault, 83, of East Syracuse, passed away Oct. 8, 2012, at St. Joseph’s Hospital after a brief illness with his family by his side. He was a native of Syracuse, born on March 8, 1929. He had served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Mr. Vault has been retired 22 years while a member of the Local Carpenters Union for 65 years. Mr. Vault was extremely proud of building over 35 local churches around the Central New York area while working at J.A. Vault Construction and many commercial projects while at Visconti Construction.
In his younger years, Fred was a stock car driver. He was an avid NASCAR Fan, enjoyed helping his grandchildren with special projects and was proud of his membership at the VFW.
Mr. Vault was predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years Dawn Scott Vault in 2004 and his son, Dan Vault in 1977. He was also predeceased by his two brothers, Robert J. and Jack B. Vault.
He is survived by his daughter, Cindy and son-in-law, Joe Verzino of Fayetteville; and Dawn’s daughter Marion and son-in-law, Dave Crockett of New Jersey; grandchildren, Nicole Verzino of DeWitt, Michael Verzino of Providence, RI, David Crockett of Memphis, TN, Christine (Shawn) McAndrews of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, and Dan Crockett of Galloway, NJ; two great-grandchildren; his brother, Julian A. Vault of Cicero; and his sister, Rosemary Grey of Bellflower, CA.
The family would like to give special thanks to the Medical Intensive Care Unit at St. Joe’s for their professional and loving care.
Services: 10:45 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel and 11:30 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Church in East Syracuse. Burial will be in White Chapel Memory Gardens, DeWitt.
