Richard “Brownie” C. Brown, 88, of Liverpool, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at Sunnyside Nursing Home. He was born in Fulton and as a young child came to Liverpool where he had resided for over 70 years. Mr. Brown was a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran serving in WWII. For over 60 years, he was the owner and operator of Richard C. Brown Musical Instrument Repair in Liverpool. Richard was an accomplished musician playing in numerous venues and with local groups including; Mario DeSantis Orchestra, including the Pompeian Players Productions, and the Rhythmaires. His memberships included; Liverpool American Legion Post #188 and their Legion Band, Musicians Union Local # 78 AFM, and the Liverpool High School Fine Arts Hall of Fame. Mr. Brown would often repair instruments for children at no cost to further their love of music. He is predeceased by his wife Mary Jane Brown in 2003, a sister, Eleanor Jackson, brother, Clyde Brown.
He is survived by his children; John J. Brown, Carlyn Sargeant, Eleanor (David) Allen, Susan (Arthur) Thomas all of Baldwinsville, Elizabeth Brown (Becky Smith) of Liverpool, Cheryl (Leonard) Dennis of Elbridge, 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services: 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19, at the Maurer Funeral Home. Calling hours: 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, at the funeral home, 300 Second St., Liverpool. Burial with military honors will follow in Liverpool Village Cemetery. Contributions in Richard’s memory may be made to the LCSD-Music Department, 4338 Wetzel Road, Liverpool, NY 13090.
