Thomas Joseph Cost, 57, of Marcellus, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at Upstate University Hospital at Community General. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, he was born on Monday, Feb, 14, 1955 and was a graduate of Westhill High School and attended Ithaca College.
Thomas retired in 2011 after 29 years with Penn Traffic. He was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church and member of the Teamsters 317. He loved spending time with his family, especially the summers camping on Cape Cod and extended family and golf gatherings. He volunteered for many years with Marcellus Optimist Baseball and Marcellus Youth Soccer programs. He also enjoyed shooting darts with family and friends.
Thomas was predeceased by his mother, Elizabeth “Betty” Kearing Cost, in 1986. Surviving are his wife of 33 years, the former Patricia Kathleen Zbikowski; daughter, Jessica Cost; and sons, Alexander, Jason, and Patrick Cost, all of Marcellus; father and stepmother, Dr. Stephen and Julia Cost of Camillus; sisters and brother-in-law, Lisa Cost Peck and Alexandra and Nicholas Stefano, all of Syracuse; brothers and sisters-in-law, Stephen and Patricia of Kansas, Michael and Cynthia of Camillus, Christopher and Debbie of New Hampshire, and Gregory of New Hartford; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends called from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Funeral mass was celebrated at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12 in St. Francis Xavier Church with Rev. Daniel C. Muscalino officiating. Thomas was laid to rest in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Marcellus.
