Gordon Cruickshank, 74, passed away Nov. 7, 2012, at St. Joseph’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born and raised in Niagara Falls, N.Y. He was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School and Niagara University, he did his graduate work at Syracuse University. Gordon served in the Army Reserves during the Vietnam War. He spent his entire career as a high school social studies teacher in Syracuse, NY, first at Central tech High School and then at Fowler High School. He retired in 1995.
Gordon loved golfing, reading, civil war history and anything related to his beloved grandchildren. He was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills and the Syracuse University Orange. He participated in the Onondaga County Civil War Round Table. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Camillus and was an active volunteer for his church and for St. Camillus Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Violet (Morris) Cruickshank and a sister, Jeanne (Cruickshank) Smith.
Gordon is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Shirley (Harshman), their three children; Becky (Bob) Ponzo of Camillus, Glenn (Kristen) of Raleigh, NC and Karen (Jason) Herskowitz of Brooklyn, NY. Seven grandchildren: Kerstian Short, Ashley and Amanda Ponzo, Chloe and Mia Herskowitz, and Gavin and Colin Cruickshank, and many dear extended family and friends.
Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, in Immanuel United Methodist Church, 303 Kasson Road, Camillus, NY. Calling Hours: 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11 at Whelan Bros. & Hulchanski Funeral Home, 5854 Belle Isle Road, Syracuse, NY 13209.
