Elva B. Kendrat, 88 died Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Loretto Cunningham. A native of Princeton, WV, Elva graduated from Princeton High and resided in the Syracuse and Eastwood area for most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Martin and Edna M (Smith) Howell .
She worked at the Eastwood Bowling Center as a waitress for more than 40 years. Prior to that she worked at the McChesney Book Bindery. As a young lady she played guitar and sang country music on the radio in the West Virginia area. Elva was also an accomplished seamstress and bowled for many years in the Tuesday women's league at the Eastwood bowling center.
Elva was predeceased by her former husband Nicholas in 1983 and her son-in-law Phil DiMatteo in 2007 and her sister Alma Jean, Margaret and Emma. She is survived by her two daughters Shirley A. DiMatteo of Cicero, Sandra J. Argus of Liverpool, a brother Martin Howell Jr. of W. Virginia, five grandchildren; Phillip J. (Jennifer) Prugger, Kristopher (Angela) Argus, Lisa DiMatteo, Joelle (Kevin) Greer, Michelle (Andrew) Turtschin, eight Great grandchildren; Aubrie, Annalise, Michael, Joseph, Andrew, Phillip, Kevin, Jaden, several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours: 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale, with funeral services following at 11 at the funeral home and entombment in Woodlawn Mausoleum, Syracuse. Contributions may be made in Elva's name to the Humane Association 4915 1/2 W. Taft Rd. Liverpool, NY 13088.
