Raymond Charles Willis, Sr., 76, died Sunday, March 25, 2012, at Francis House following a long illness. Raymond was a native of Syracuse and resided in the village of Liverpool for many years before moving to Oneida Lake in 1986. He was the son of the late Arthur C. and Mary (Muir) Willis.
Raymond was a U.S. Naval veteran and retired in 1984 after over 20 years as a firefighter for the Syracuse Fire Department. He was a longtime member of the South Shore Association Rod and Gun Club and a former member of the Mattydale Volunteer Fire Dept.
He was predeceased by his wife of 38 years, the former Florence Hayes, in 1999.
Ray is survived by his three children: Nadine (Kevin) Knecht of Syracuse, Cathleen O'Connell of Marcellus, and Raymond C. Willis, Jr. of Central Square; and nine grandchildren: Lindsey, Mallory, Katie, Brian, Daniel, Avery, Mason, Ella, Grace and her mother, Marie Willis of Clay.
Calling hours: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale, with a funeral service following at 7 p.m. Contributions in Raymond's memory may be made to Two Smiles One Hope, PO Box 435, Fayetteville, NY 13066 to benefit further research of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
