Joan (Dicks) Oksa, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Sunday, March 25, 2012. She was born in Nelliston, NY. Joan was a 1950 graduate of the Crouse-Irving School of Nursing and a member of the Alumni Association. She worked for the American Red Cross Blood Services and retired as a school nurse at Chestnut Hill Middle School.
Surviving are her husband Aarne Oksa, children, Thomas (Nancy) Oksa of Nashua, NH, Amy Oksa (Leslie Ross) of Dickinson, ND, Heidi (Charles) LaLone of Cicero, grandson, Alexander whom she took great pride in; sister, Barbara (Ronald) Hoffman of Hopedale, MA, a nephew, two nieces, and several special people including Nancy, Lorie, Aggie, Kirk and Kyle.
Calling hours: 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, at the Maurer Funeral Home, 300 Second St., Liverpool. Funeral services: 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, in St. Matthews Episcopal Church 904 Vine St., Liverpool. Interment will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Clay. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 7, East Syracuse, NY 13057. A special thank you to the nursing staff on 2-8 at St. Joseph’s Hospital for their caring and kindness to Joan and her family.
