Harold H. Carr, Sr., 88, of Matty Avenue, Mattydale, died Saturday, March 24, 2012, at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was a life resident of Mattydale, was the son of the late William and Gertrude Carr and graduated in 1941 from the North Syracuse High School.
While serving in the Army Air Corps during WWII he met his future wife Ellen at the Wright-Peterson Air Force Base in Ohio where they both were stationed. Following the war he worked as a Cutter/Grinder for 45 years until he retired in 1986 from the Chrysler Corporation in Syracuse.
Harold was a life member and served three separate terms as Post Commander of the American Legion Post #1832 in Mattydale and he was a past Chef de Gar of the 40 & 8 Voiture. He was a Past Master of the former Centerville Masonic Lodge #648 in North Syracuse and a member of the Scottish Rite and the Shiners. He was a long time member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Mattydale. Harold also was an avid Stamp collector and enjoyed building theme oriented shadow boxes.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Ellen of 57 years in 2001, a son Ken in 1964 and a granddaughter Michelle in 1989. Surviving are his two children Harold (Peggy) Carr Jr. of Ithaca and Cheryl (Michael) Wright of Mattydale, two grandchildren Teri Hinton, Neil Carr and one great grandson Matthew Lewis Carr.
Calling hours: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale. Funeral services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, at the funeral home.
