John T. Heldt

John T. Heldt, 80, of North Syracuse, died Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was a Syracuse native, the son of the late Roland J. and Anna Riley Heldt. An Army veteran, he served in the Philippines during the Korean War.
After 48 years of service, he retired in 1995 from the Victory Great American Stores where he had been store manager in many Central New York communities. He was a member of Local 1 of the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church.
The former Margaret A. "Peggy" Walsh, his wife of 43 years, predeceased him May 9, 1995.
Surviving are a daughter, Catherine M. (John J.) Heldt-Swan of Cicero; sons, Edward J. Heldt of Liverpool and Mark J. Heldt of North Syracuse; a sister, Patricia A. (Paul) Herrmann of Brewerton; a sister-in-law, Rita S. Popoff and several nieces and nephews.
Services: 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, at Fergerson Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. the Mass of Christian Burial is at St. Rose of Lima Church.
