Lorraine M. Ruth

unknown - July 23, 2012

Lorraine M. Ruth, 88, passed away on July 23, 2012, at Iroquois Nursing Home in Jamesville. Lorraine was a proud, lifelong resident of Chicago, Ill., until three years ago, when she was brought to Syracuse by her beloved nephew Michael to be closer to family. She worked as a reading and special education teacher in the Chicago Public School for many years, serving as a role model and mentor to inner city youth. Lorraine was a faithful caretaker to her parents and her many aunts in Chicago. She loved the arts, particularly opera and the theater, and enjoyed treating family members to a good restaurant dinner and a movie. Lorraine will be remembered for her generous heart, independent nature, sense of humor and love of young people.
She is survived by her brother, Edwin Rutkowski of Jamesville; nephew, Michael Rutkowski and wife Karen of Fayetteville; niece, Sara Pollock of Orlando, FL; grandnieces, Theresa Rutkowski and Lauren Pollock; and grandnephew, Dan Rutkowski.
The family wishes to thank the staff of East Side Manor and Iroquois Nursing Home for their compassionate care.
Services: 9 a.m. Friday, July 27, in the chapel of the Resurrection Mausoleum at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 4100 E. Genesee St., DeWitt. For guestbook, please visit scheppfamily.com.
