Miyoko Fiel, 85, of Garden City Drive in Mattydale, died Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at Iroquois Nursing Home. Miyoko was a native of Osaka, Japan and resided in the North Syracuse and Mattydale areas since 1960.
Miyoko met her husband Robert, in Japan during the Korean War. They got married at the American Embassy in Kobe, Japan two years following the war. Together they maintained a summer camp at Sunset Park on Cross Lake for many years. Miyoko was involved with the Japanese American Cultural Exchange Society for several years and always worked at the Festival of Nations at the War Memorial.
Miyoko is survived by her husband of 52 years, Robert H. Fiel; their two sons: Steven (Betsy) Fiel of San Jose, CA and Jim (Rochelle) Fiel of Cicero; and five grandchildren: Michele, Andrew, Emily, Dana, and Mathew.
The family wishes to express their gratitude and appreciation to the staff at Iroquois Nursing Home for their compassion to Miyoko during her stay.
Calling hours: 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 22, at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale. Funeral services: 10 a.m. Monday, July 21, at the funeral home with burial following in Oakwood Cemetery, Syracuse.
