May Weissberg Grumet, 84, passed away in Palm Beach, FL, on July 1, 2012. She was born on May 6, 1928 in New York, N.Y. May was a wife, mother, teacher, principal and friend.She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Sidney Grumet, her sister Sandy Kornfeld and brother Abe Weissberg, daughters Shelley and husband Mark Schimelman, and Rebecca and husband Jim Smith, grandchildren Sondra (Schimelman) Aresty, Rachel Schimelman, Ben Schimelman, Brian Smith and Eric Smith and great granddaughter, Hazel Aresty.
She was active in numerous community and professional organizations, among them Hadassah and League of Women Voters. She was a longtime resident of Cazenovia and Palm Beach, FL. She taught for many years in the Liverpool Central School District and then went on to become an administrator and later principal of Donlon Drive Elementary School. She received her bachelor’s degree from New York University and her master’s degree and Certificate of Advanced Study from Syracuse University. Her family wishes to thank the caregivers of Signature Health Care of Palm Beach for kind and loving care during the past year.
