John J. Cifaratta

John J. Cifaratta, 77, of North Syracuse passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012. He was the son of the late John J. and Margaret May Cifaratta and brother of the late Charles and Michael Cifaratta.
Mr. Cifaratta graduated from Valley High School and attended Alfred University. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the US Navy as ship's electrician aboard the Naval Destroyer, USS Dortch. A favorite memory was his three crossings of the equator. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion, and took part in other community organizations throughout his life.
In 1989, Mr. Cifaratta retired, after 36 years of service, from the US Postal Service as manager of plant maintenance. He enjoyed traveling and cooking favorite family recipes, and he cherished moments with his grandchildren. John quietly taught by example and was respected and admired by those around him. He will be fondly remembered for his wisdom, strong work ethic, and unconditional love and support.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, the former Anna M. Dudli; three children, Michael (Susan) Cifaratta, William (Larie) Cifaratta and Susan (Charles) Conklin; eight grandchildren, Ashley, Kathryn, Katrina, John, Matthew, Elise, Robert and Nicole and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services: 9:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, at at Fergerson Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, North Syracuse. Military Honors will be accorded. Calling hours: 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 22, at the funeral home, 215 South Main St., North Syracuse.
