Mildred B. Simmons

Mildred Beverly Simmons, 82, of Jordan, whose last words were “God was always with me” died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011. Mildred was an avid gardener, voracious reader, and bird watcher, who loved to travel, spend time with her family and was very active in her church and community.
Born in Syracuse, Mildred lived in the Jordan area since 1950. She was the widow of Foster Simmons who died in 1965. She was employed for 29 years as a librarian assistant in the Jordan-Elbridge School District. Following retirement from J-E, Mildred served as librarian at the Jordan-Bramley Library. She was a member of the Brutus-Cato Chapter 86 OES. Mildred was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Jordan where she was church clerk for many years.
She was predeceased by her parents Charles H. and Kathryn Bennett, two brothers Charles H. Bennett Jr. and Richard F. Bennett.
Surviving are her children Charles F. (Becky) Simmons of Cicero, Stephanie S. (Dean) Walker of Pittsburgh, PA, and Bruce A. (Mary) Simmons of Elbridge, brother Frederick Bennett of Cicero, sister Karen Lanier of Auburn, and six grandchildren.
Calling hours: 4-7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2, at the Bush Funeral Home 120 E. Main St. Elbridge. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, in the first Baptist Church, 30 Clinton St., Jordan.
