Marjorie J. (Kalb) Merle, 89, formerly of Baldwinsville, went to be with the Lord, with her husband waiting to meet her, on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, at Loretto. Mrs. Merle had been a life long resident of the Syracuse area. For eight years, Marjorie worked as a secretary to the superintendent of the North Syracuse School District. Mrs. Merle was the secretary and treasurer of H.T. Merle Builders of Baldwinsville for over 40 years. She also was instrumental in the inception of the North Area YMCA. As a young girl, Mrs. Merle enjoyed being an equestrian. A gentle and kind woman, Marjorie’s love was for family and friends. She enjoyed bowling and was an avid golfer being a charter member of Beaver Meadows Golf & Recreation Association. She had a love for gardening belonging to various area Garden Clubs. Marjorie was a long time member of Liverpool First Presbyterian Church and the Home Builders Association Auxiliary. She is predeceased by her husband Harold T. Merle in 1995.
Surviving are her children; Lee S. (Louis “Duke”) Piedmonte, Ronald K. (Terry) Merle all of Baldwinsville, Scott W. (Kim) Merle of Clay, four grandchildren; Joshua (Natalie) Volcko of Victor, Idaho; Michael Merle of Baldwinsville; Justin Merle of Clay; Ryan Merle of Skaneateles; 3 great-grandchildren, Mason Volcko, Cameron Marlowe , McKenzie Volcko, all of Victor, Idaho; and her sister, Marion Korb of Baldwinsville. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services: 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at the Maurer Funeral Home Moyers Corners with burial to follow in Riverview Cemetery, Baldwinsville. Calling hours: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 at the funeral home, 3541 Rt. 31, Baldwinsville. Contributions in Marjories’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Central NY Chapter, 441 W. Kirkpatrick St., Syracuse, NY 13204. The family would like to thank the staff on the Cunningham sixth floor at Loretto for their kindness and compassion during Marjorie’s last days as well as their care for her over the past eight years.
