Elizabeth “Betty” Bartlett, 83, of Westvale, passed away Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, at home. Born in Syracuse on Monday, Dec. 24, 1928, she was the daughter of Alexander Douglas and Morrison Simpson Halliday Douglas. She was a lifetime resident of Syracuse and 1947 graduate of Vocational High School.
Betty retired from the Syracuse City School District in 1991 after 25 years. A member of Fay Road Baptist Church for more than 70 years, she was a member of the choir and soloist, taught Sunday school, served on the church council and was the church clerk. She was an active member and officer of the Lady Douglas Lodge #126 Daughters of Scotia, Order of Eastern Star Bona Fide Hiawatha-Solvay Chapter #567, Tops #NY 0307, and a member of the same Bunco Club for more than 40 years.
Betty also enjoyed traveling, camping, music, playing piano, singing, knitting, crafts, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends. She volunteered for many years at Van Duyn Home & Hospital and Westside Ministries Food Pantry.
Very proud of her Scottish heritage, Betty’s home was filled with Scottie dogs and other items of Scotland. Most proud of her family, she was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was lovingly known to her twin great-grandsons as "GG." She will be greatly missed by her family, church family, and many, many wonderful friends.
Betty was predeceased by her parents; husband, Richard M. Bartlett; infant son, Timothy A. Bartlett; brothers, James, Morrison, John, William, and twin brother, David.
Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Geraldine and Thomas Legutko, Debra and Patrick Zubrowski, and Nancy and Donald Schmidt; son, Richard A. Bartlett; grandchildren, Cynthia (Victor) Rizzo, Daniel Zubrowski, Alexander Zubrowski and Gregory Schmidt; twin great-grandsons, Victor and Maddox Rizzo; sister-in-law, Lois Kilian; special nieces, Marie Morrison, Bonnie Brazell and Amy Kheyfits; special cousin, Agnes Fernandez; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends called from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services were at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at Fay Road Baptist Church with Rev. David Movsovich officiating. Betty was laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Fay Road Baptist Church, 750 Fay Rd., Syracuse, NY 13219.
