William C. “Bill” Thompson, 88, of Port Richey, FL and formerly of Camillus passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, after a brief illness. Born in Syracuse, Bill worked for 39 years at Carrier Corporation, retiring in 1981. Bill served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific as machinist mate first class on the carrier USS Langley CVL-27. He loved boating with family and friends, and ultimately he and Theda cruised down the inland waterway to Florida, where they lived on their boat for the first 2 years after they retired. He was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Truax.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 67 years, Theda (Miller) Thompson, who was the love of his life; his son, Edwin (Jackie) Thompson of Jordan; and his daughter Susan (Patrick) Baratta of Red Creek, NY. Bill is also survived by two brothers, Harold of Madison, AL; and Bernard of Remsen, NY; and a sister, Sally Sullivan of Wilmington, NC.
A memorial service was held at B. L. Bush & Sons Funeral Home, 10 Genesee St., village of Camillus. Burial will be at a later date in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
