Ruth Winston, 93, died on Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, at the Nottingham. Born in Elizabeth, N.J., she attended Barnard College. She served on the board of health and as president of the League of Women Voters in Darien, Ct. After studying at the New York School of Interior Design, she worked as a designer for individual clients and friends.
A long-time resident of Fayetteville, she was known for her exceptional hospitality and as an active member of the Syracuse Antiques Club. After the death of her beloved husband, Al Winston, in 2007, she became a resident of the Nottingham where she was much loved for her concern for others, intelligence, and indomitable spirit.
She is survived by her son, James Winston and his wife Carol Winston of Blairsville, Georgia, son Andrew Winston and his wife Judith Winston of Toronto, Canada; and her nephews Dr. Marc Colmer and Jeffrey Colmer of New Jersey.
