Doris Samsel Wagner, 102, formerly of Liverpool, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, at Magnolia Manor nursing home in Chester, SC. Doris retired from teaching in the Syracuse City School District. A native of Syracuse, educated in Syracuse public schools, the City Normal School and Syracuse University’s School of Education with a Bachelor’s Degree. She was a member of the Syracuse Corinthian Club and Foundation, Salvation Army Auxiliary, Delta Kappa Gamma, an education honorary. She was also a member of national, state and county teachers and retired associations. After retirement, she did volunteer work in literacy volunteer programs and Community General Hospital. Mrs. Wagner was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and formerly of Lutheran Church Women. Doris and her husband Fred were owners of Liverpool Hardware.
She was predeceased by her husband, Fred H. Wagner in 1995, brother, Robert Samsel, and her sister, Rosemond Ellers. Doris is survived by her nephews, David (Sarah) Collins of Chester, SC; John (Joan) Samsel of Anaheim Hills, CA; nieces, Nancy (Don) York of Florida; Susan (Jim) Walton of Dayton, OH; eight grand-nephews and nieces; fourteen great grand-nephews and nieces.
Funeral services: 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13, in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 210 Hazel St., Liverpool. A calling hour: 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse. In lieu of flowers contributions in Doris’s memory may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Fund.
