Jack D. Smith
unknown - January 28, 2012
Jack D. Smith, recently of Skaneateles, died at home with his family on Jan. 28, 2012. Born in Buckland, Ohio, in 1923, Jack met and later married his life-long love, Ruth, while attending Lima Central High School. Jack loved sports, excelling at football and track high-hurdle jumping.
After graduation, Jack joined the Army and served as a Pathfinder in the 70th Infantry Division, fighting in the European Theater until the war ended. He returned to Ohio and built a wonderful life with Ruth. They had two daughters, Carol and Shirley, and five beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many pets.
Jack was an intelligent, quiet, kind and gentle man. His death leaves an unfillable void in our lives. In remembrance, we ask that you be especially kind to others this week.
We thank the wonderful people who helped Jack and our family during his last days: Dr. Glowacki, Dr.Connelly, Auburn Memorial Hospital 3A Staff, Hospice of the Finger Lakes, Walgreen Pharmacy Staff, and the Bush Funeral Home in Elbridge.
Our family looks forward to all being together again…
