Joan Lingyak McManus, 81, of Camillus, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at home, surrounded by her family. A lifetime resident of the Camillus area, she was born on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1931, and was the daughter of Gustav Lingyak and Hazel Jennings Lingyak. She was a 1949 graduate of Camillus High School and attended OCC and Auburn Community College.
Joan retired from GTE in Camillus in 1985 after 25 years. A communicant of Holy Family Church, she was also a member of the Camillus Elks Auxiliary. She enjoyed golf, playing cards, traveling and Syracuse University sports. She spent many years in Florida. She also enjoyed sewing, ceramics and crafts, having attended many craft sales where she sold her creations.
Joan was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Leonard “Lenny” on May 17, 2009 and by her sisters, Mary Petosa and Kathy Arcaro.
Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Christine and Raymond Riddett of Warners, Karen and Paul Skardinski of Camillus, Denise and Jeffery Hanson of Livermore, California, and Deborah McManus of San Ramon, California; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Allyson McManus of Fulton and Timothy and Rachel McManus of Liverpool; sister, Nancy Spillett of Camillus; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends called from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 24 in Holy Family Church with Rev. Rev. Msgr. Francis Osei-Nyarko officiating. Joan was laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse, NY 13219 or to Hospice of CNY, 990 Seventh North St., Liverpool, NY 13088.
