Eleanor "Ellie" J. Gloska Oakes, 83, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at Iroquois Nursing Home . A native of Clay and resident of Cicero since 1974, she was employed by General Electric for 40 years, retiring in 1988 from the heavy military division on Farrell Road.
Mrs. Oakes was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church of Cicero, where she had taught religious education and was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She belonged to the Our Lady of Fatima Prayer Group at St. Rose of Lima, was a member of the Lay Carmelite Community of CNY and led the prayer group at Buckley Landing.
Ellie was a retired life member of the Moyers Corners Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and a retired NAVAC member. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond, on May 20, 1992, and two brothers Albert and Lawrence Gloska.
Surviving are her sisters, Ann Becker, of Florida, Dolores Bristol, of Virginia and Katherine Swindon of Clay; her brothers, Daniel Gloska, of North Carolina and Mark Gloska, of North Syracuse; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and friends.
Services: 9:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21 at Fergerson Funeral Home with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church of Cicero and burial following in North Syracuse Cemetery. Calling hours: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20 at the funeral home, 215 South Main Street, North Syracuse.
