George Lawrence Booth, 85, of Baldwinsville and Vero Beach, FL. passed away Dec. 4, 2012, after a long illness. He was born Dec. 2, 1927, in Binghamton.The youngest of six children of Clifford Curtis Booth and Alice Palmer Booth. He attained Eagle Scout rank and belonged to the Order of the Arrow. He graduated from the College of Environmental Science and Forestry at Syracuse University where he majored in pulp and paper science. At Syracuse University he was president of Kappa Sigma fraternity and a member of Alpha Chi Sigma. He was a licensed professional engineer in New York and Kentucky. Most of his working career was spent with Black Clawson Company, Fulton, including a three-year tour in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where he was general manager and president of Compania Federal de Fundicao.He was a member of the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI) and was honored to be a TAPPI Fellow. He received the Coating and Graphic Arts Division Award and the Charles Engelhard Medallion. George was the author of Coating Equipment and Processes, Lockwood Publishing Co., 1970, and authored dozens of technical articles which appeared in the industry publications. George was a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Fulton, and past district governor of District 7150 (Central New York). He was a multiple Paul Harris Fellow. He retired as a full commander from the United States Coast Guard Reserve. George was an avid hunter belonging to Beaver Meadow Lake Club, Hancock, N.Y. for over 60 years. He was active in amateur radio and the laryngectomee club of Vero Beach, FL.
George was predeceased by his parents, sister Kathleen Perkins and brother Robert. Survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia Goodman Booth, sons
Surviving: Dr. Michael (Sue Newpher) Booth, Bismarck, ND; Stephen (Kathy Clark ) Booth, Antwerp, NY; Eric (Kathy Frank) Booth, Whitney Point, NY; daughters Celia Booth (Tom McCaffery), Alexandria VA; and Dr. Laura Jo Booth (Dr. Raymond Chan), Victor, NY; Sisters Frances Welden and Alice Filippini; brother C. Curtis Booth.;18 grandchildren; 3 great granddaughters; 14 nieces and nephews and his beloved Scottie, Gracie.
