Muriel S. Nichols

Muriel S. Nichols, 96, longtime resident of Northwood Drive in Mattydale, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, at St. Joseph's Hospital. A native of Collamer, Muriel was a 1934 graduate of East Syracuse Minoa High School and the daughter of the late Lee and Florence (Millback) Stevenson.
Muriel retired in 1977 after 25 years in the transistor division of General Electric Company in Liverpool. She was a member of the East Syracuse Senior Citizens, several cards clubs and enjoyed the Turning Stone Casino. Muriel was an active longtime member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Mattydale where she volunteered in many of the committees and circles.
She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Lloyd Nichols, in 1997 and by a son, Richard, in 1978.
Surviving are her four children: John (Connie) Nichols of Sun City Center, FL, Bruce Nichols of Liverpool, Janet Gillen of Syracuse, and Cynthia Nies of Liverpool; two brothers: Mortimer and Ronald Stevenson Sr., both of East Syracuse; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Muriel's memory may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church, 201 E. Molloy Road, Mattydale, NY 13211. Calling hours: 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5 at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale. Funeral services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6 at the funeral home followed by burial in Collamer Cemetery, East Syracuse.
