Irene “Bobbie” McVinney, 58, of North Syracuse, died Aug. 22, 2012, after a brave 10-year battle with cancer. Her sister, Beverly Magnanti, was at her side. Bobbie was born in Syracuse on May 27, 1954, to Robert and Reta (Switts) McVinney. Tragically, Robert died a mere month later. Reta remarried in 1961 and Bobbie had a warm and loving relationship with her stepfather, Francis “Mike” Omer.
Bobbie was a graduate of Liverpool High School and Onondaga Community College. She was employed by Syracuse China, Price Chopper, Kauffman’s and Lemp’s Jewelers. She often participated in charity walks for cancer and other community fund-raisers. She was especially known for her endearing sense of humor, her love of all things feline, and her kind, kind heart. Her son and granddaughter were her most-valued treasures.
In addition to her sister, she is survived by her son, Jason Crumb of North Syracuse, her granddaughter, Taylor Wise of Mattydale, her aunt and uncle, William and Ruth Switts of Scotia, N.Y., nephews, nieces and cousins.
Bobbie is predeceased by her parents and brother, Gary McVinney, who died in 2008, as well as her former husbands, Thomas Crumb and Thomas Gibson.
Memorial dinner: Tuesday, Aug. 28, at Santangelo’s Restaurant in Liverpool. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 6725 Lyons St., P.O. Box 7, East Syracuse, NY 13057. Maurer Funeral Home, Liverpool has charge of arrangements.
