Shirley (Dippold) Carroll, 72, lifelong resident of Mattydale, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, at home. Shirley was a 1961 graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh where she received her bachelor's degree in education; she completed her master's degree in education at Syracuse University and was the daughter of the late Henry and Clara (Roeckelein) Dippold.
Shirley retired in 1999 after 30 years as a food service teacher for OCM Boces. Prior to that, she worked for the Central Square School District and was a member of Luther Memorial Church in North Syracuse.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, Robert "Bobby" Carroll, in 2006, by her sister, Barbara Honis and by two brothers-in-law, Charles Tourot and Richard Fuller.
Shirley is survived by three children: Jennifer (Tom) Madeline of Cicero, Richard (Mary) Carroll of Liverpool, and Daniel Carroll of Atlanta, GA; six siblings: Joan Tourot of Mattydale, Jean Fuller of Rochester, Sue (Bill) Wademan of Camillus, Diane (Fred) Chase of Central Square, Dolores (Robert) Guernsey of Myrtle Beach, SC and John (Carol) Dippold of Lyncourt; a brother-in-law, Don Honis of Clay; five grandchildren: Grace, Aiden, Gabrielle, Finnan and Jude; many nieces and nephews and her dear friend, Bob Hannon.

Calling hours: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale. Funeral services: 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31 at Luther Memorial Church, 435 South Main St., North Syracuse, with burial following in North Syracuse Cemetery.
