Award winning sculptor, photographer, graphic designer and devotee of classical music, John M. Gaska, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Amsterdam, NY and was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. He then went on to graduate with honors from Pratt Institute in New York City with a Bachelors in Industrial Design.
John also served the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1956. He then went on to work for GE and Smith-Corona, both in industrial design. John also taught industrial design at both Oswego State and Syracuse University.
John was a collector and creator of sculptures, ship, train, army tank models and coins which he displayed in his home. Some of his most favorite artists included, Paul Klee (painter), Charles Eames (designer), Steve Jobs (Apple Computers) and composers Tchaikovsky, Brahms and Schubert.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Rosalie Ross Gaska; and his three beloved daughters, Linda L. Lonergan, Nola J. Casserly and Sandra L. Gaska. Also his three grandchildren, Ryan M. Casserly, Madelyn R. Casserly and Grayce Autumn Lonergan; and beloved sons-in-law, Gregory D. Casserly and Randy Clark.
Thank you, Dad, for the morals and values you instilled in us all. You will always live in our hearts.
