George S. Daino

George S. Daino, 69, of Mattydale, died Sunday, April 8, 2012, at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center. George resided on the North side of Syracuse for most of his life before moving to Orchard Estates in 2008. He was the son of the late George and Bella (DiMatteo) Daino.
George attended Assumption Academy and served in both the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Air Force for several years. He retired in 1993 after 20 years as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. George was a long time member of the I.A.A.C. and a member of the letter carriers union. He was an avid hockey enthusiast especially a Syracuse Crunch Fan. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Pompei Church.
George is survived by his two sisters: Carmel Daino of Mattydale, and Isabel (Mickey) Berger of Camillus; a nephew, Mark (Helen) Berger of Chittenango; his great nieces, Heather (Jim) Tarby and Dr. Elizabeth Berger; as well as his great nephew, Michael Berger; a great great niece, Grace Tarby; and several aunts and cousins.
Calling hours: from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale, with a prayer service following at 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian burial: noon, St. Margaret's Church, Mattydale. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery, Syracuse. Contributions in George's memory may be made to Our Lady of Pompei Building Fund, 301 Ash St., Syracuse, NY 13208.
