Margaret “Marge” Sloyka, passed away peacefully at her home in DeWitt on Wednesday Sept. 21, 2011. A lifelong resident, Marge was born on Nov. 18, 1922, to the late Andrew and Mary Volcko. She grew up with one sister, Wilma Volcko Wawro. She graduated from Vocational High School in 1940. On Aug. 10, 1946, Marge married John Sloyka and together they raised four children. Marge was a devoted mother and a homemaker who actively volunteered with “Fresh Air Kids” for many years. She loved her family, pets, reading and Syracuse University basketball. Marge was preceded in death by her husband John in 2010.
Marge is survived by sons, Bob Sloyka, Jim Sloyka, and Jack Sloyka; daughter, Kathy Moro; grandsons, Evan Sloyka, Erik Sloyka, Mike Sloyka, Scott Moro and Gary Moro; granddaughter, Jenna Sloyka; niece, MaryEllen Agen; and nephews Bill Wawro and Tom Wawro. The family wishes to thank Marge’s loving and supportive friends, doctors, and caregivers.
Funeral Services: 9:45 a.m. Tuesday Sept. 27 from Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel and 10:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, 4112 E. Genesee St., DeWitt. Entombment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt. Family and friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville.
