Dr. Garland Morey
unknown - August 1, 2011
Dr. Garland "Gary" Morey, 57, passed away quietly in his sleep Aug. 1, 2011, after a long battle with cancer. He was the son of Garland "Gene" Morey Sr. and the late Theresa "Terry" (Panetta) Morey. He was born and raised in North Syracuse and graduated from Cicero High School.
His undergraduate studies were at Cornell University and after completing his Medical degree at Upstate Medical Center, Gary set up his first private practice in Onley, Va. before moving south to Florida where he practiced in the Florida Keys. Moving to Pompano Beach he opened up his own practice and created his family practice and clinic in Ft. Lauderdale. Eventually he became the first HIV infectious Disease Physician in South Florida and Broward County. Center One, South Florida AIDS Network, HIV Planning Council, Ryan White PLWHA group, footsteps in the Sand Community Foundation of Broward Co, and The New Voice Club of South Florida were just some of the many organizations that Gary passionately worked on.
He will be greatly missed by all those who were lucky enough to cross his path.
Gary is survived by Bill Silvers, his father Gene Morey, his sister Linda Morey-Thomas, his brother Don Morey and nephews Tim Thomas, Bryan Thomas, Trevor Morey and Kevin Morey.
