Dominica “Mimi” Bandera, 84, of Syracuse, passed away Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, in the home she adored, surrounded by her family. Born on Saturday, March 19, 1927, she was the daughter of Salvatore Scaravillo and Carmela Grillo Scaravillo. She was raised on the North side of Syracuse and was a graduate of North High School and Powelson Business Institute. She was employed at the O’Brien & Gere engineering firm, working for the founding principals.
Mimi was passionate about her family and well-known for her optimistic view on life, her humor, singing, cooking, and caring for others. She was an avid nature and animal lover, a great chef, and a longtime SU sports fan.
Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Daniel Dino Bandera; children, Daniel Q. (Deborah) Bandera of Austin, Texas, Victoria (Nicholas) Bandera-Geswaldo of Camillus, Richard (Kimberly) Bandera of Southport, North Carolina, and Michael (Nancy) Bandera of Syracuse; brothers and sister-in-law, Joseph Scaravillo of Camillus and Vincent and Joyce Scaravillo of Syracuse; granddaughters, Elizabeth and Katherine of Austin, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends called from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass was celebrated at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, in St. Daniel’s Church with Msgr. Eugene Yennock officiating. Mimi was laid to rest in Assumption Cemetery.
