Doris J. “Dorry” Van Heesch, 83, of Jordan, using her own words to describe when the time came- “Kicked the Bucket” Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, at Loretto. Born in Granby, Dorry was a 1945 graduate of Fulton High School and later Crouse Hospital School of Nursing. She spent several years as a nurse in the U.S. Air Force and the reserves retiring in 1988 with the rank of Major. Dorry was a nurse at the V.A. Hospital for 12 years before retiring in 1983. Dorry was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, Jordan and was a faithful volunteer with the funeral guild. She was actively involved with the Jordan Bramley Library where she enjoyed reading to the children and just filling the roll of general “handy person” to do what ever was needed to be done around the building especially the landscaping.
She was predeceased by her parents Albert and Josephine Baxter Van Heesch, her brother Al and his two wives. Surviving are her sister Laurine Allen of Canastota, her best friend Barb Bailey of Marietta, two favorite great-godchildren Emmy Fisher-Bailey and Landry Fisher-Bailey, several other godchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.
A mass of Christian burial: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21, in St. Patrick’s Church, Jordan. Private burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Marcellus. Friends and family are invited to call 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, at the Bush Funeral Home 120 E. Main St. (Rt. 5) Elbridge.
