Sally A. Domres, 85, a longtime resident of North Syracuse, passed away Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, in Ft. Myers, FL. Always maintaining her positive outlook, intellectual curiosity, and nurturing personality, she was a light in the world, and beloved by those who knew her.
A native of West Seneca, NY, Sally attended 14 different schools, as her father traveled extensively for Nabisco. She graduated as class valedictorian in 1942 from Eastwood High School. Sally forged life-long friendships with her classmates at Syracuse Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, where she was a member of the Agenda Honor Society. She graduated in 1945 as a Registered Nurse and served in the Army Cadet Nurse Corps at Rhodes Army Hospital during World War II. Later, she worked for Clayton Hale, MD, and as a school nurse in the North Syracuse Central Schools.
Mrs. Domres was a Girl Scout and for 12 years was leader of Troop 157 Senior Scouts, receiving the Thanks Badge in 1979. Sally was also a PTA president, church and community volunteer who is fondly remembered by many grown-up children that she mentored. A devoted caregiver, she faced many daunting challenges with stalwart optimism and great faith. She was a member of Pitcher Hill Community Church for 50 years.
Sally was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Paul B. Domres, Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Dr. Patricia (Dr. Vijay) Kapur of Tarzana, CA, Michele Domres-Hon (Dr. Henry Hon) of Ft. Myers, FL, and Susan (Les) Zuckerman of Cherry Hill, NJ, as well as grandchildren, Dr. Nick Kapur (Dr. Chinghsin Wu), Dr. Elisabeth Hon (Kevin) Hunt, Vincent (Hyun Jin) Kapur, Dr. Gregory Hon, Adam Zuckerman, Peter Zuckerman and Stephanie Hon, and great-grandchildren, Clarity and Kenning Kapur.
Calling hours 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at Fergerson Funeral Home, 215 South Main Street, North Syracuse. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at Pitcher Hill Community Church.
