Christopher J. Cleary, Jr.

Christopher J. Cleary, Jr., 92, of North Syracuse, died Monday, Dec. 26, 2011, at St. Joseph's Hospital. Born in Troy, N.Y., he graduated from Lansingburgh High School, was a cum laude graduate of Sienna College and was the first president of the Sienna Alumni Association. He served with the U.S. Navy during WWII.
Mr. Cleary worked as a staff engineer for General Electric Company for over 40 years; first in Schenectady and then in Syracuse where he moved in the early 1950’s. During his tenure with GE, he represented the company at numerous industry/government groups and received numerous awards for his service.
A communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church, North Syracuse, Mr. Cleary served on the Parish Council, as director of the Hope Appeal and as a eucharistic minister and lector.
Mr. Cleary was an active member and supporter of Boy Scouts, serving as a volunteer for scouting activities and as a fundraiser. He served on the planning board of Centerville Court Senior Living Community. An active Life Member of Bishop Curley Council 3717, Knights of Columbus, Mr. Cleary served as Grand Knight and in numerous district and state level positions.
Predeceased by his wife of over 50 years, Lucy, he is survived by his sons, Christopher III (Ann) and Philip of North Syracuse; granddaughters, Rachel and Lauren and a sister, Regina Behan of Troy.
