Barbara Butler, 71, of Camillus, passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 19, 2011. Born in Syracuse, she graduated valedictorian of Syracuse Central Schools in 1958. Barb received a three-year registered nursing diploma from Syracuse General Hospital and practiced as an RN in medsurge and cardiac ICU in Faxton Hospital in Utica and in private duty with the Medical Registry in Syracuse for 15 years. She was a current and active participant in the Harvard Nurse Research study.
She grew up at Immanuel Baptist Church in Syracuse, later attended and sang choir at Westminster Church in Utica for 20 years and presently was a member of Fairmount Community Church, United Church of Christ which she had enjoyed the women's fellowship and worship services. She was predeceased by her mother, Olive Crawford Moorhead and her husband, Miller (Matches) Butler in 1995.
She leaves behind three daughters, Diane Ioannou of Camillus, Dorothy Pastor and Carol Spartano, both of Ohio; six grandchildren, Erica Pastor, Daniel Ioannou, Thomas Ioannou, Lexi Spartano, Christopher Spartano and Anthony Spartano; a brother, Richard Corp; several nieces, nephews; four cats and a Chihuahua.
A special thank you to all the staff at Brittonfield, Hospice of CNY and oncologist Dr. Benny Wong for all his care and treatment for (non-genetic) breast cancer and non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Special thanks to Fairmount Community Church for their prayers, and acts of kindness during her illness and to her General Hospital Nursing class friends.
Private graveside services were held in White Chapel Memory Gardens with the Rev. Gary Ferner officiating. Arrangements by the B.L. Bush & Sons Funeral Home, 10 Genesee St., Camillus.
