Alan R. Blatt, 72, of Cazenovia, formerly of West Winfield, passed away at home after a long struggle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011.
Alan grew up in Deansboro and was a 1957 graduate of Waterville High School. He was a dairy farmer for over 30 years. After retiring from farming, he enjoyed working as a custodian at Mount Markham Middle School. He was a councilman for the town of Winfield for many years. Two of his greatest pleasures were deer hunting with his son and watching Syracuse University basketball games.
He is survived by his wife, Donna, of Cazenovia; a daughter, Roxy (Phil) Spano of Cazenovia; a son, Chris (Miranda) Blatt of Delphi Falls; grandchildren Ben and Sam Schreibman, Elizabeth and Dylan Blatt, and Kayla Eysaman; a brother, Jim Blatt of CT; mother-in-law Hazel Smith; special sister-in-law Jill (Don) Van Valkenburgh; and brothers-in-law Jim, Dave and Ted Smith. Alan was predeceased by a daughter, Laurel, in 1962; parents James N. and Violet Blatt; a brother, Jerrold R. Blatt; and father-in-law Donald Smith.
Funeral services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, from the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 365 W. Main Street, West Winfield. Interment followed in Millers Mills Cemetery.
