Robert L. Schleret, 87, of Liverpool, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, at his home. A life resident of the Syracuse area, Bob was a communicant of Christ the King Church. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran and POW of WWII, proudly serving his country as a Staff Sergeant and ball turret gunner on a B-24 Liberator in the 460th Bomb Group. Upon being discharged from the Army, Bob joined the Syracuse Fire Department and retired as a Lieutenant in 1980 after 33 years of service. He is a member of the Syracuse Retired Firefighters Association, United Police and Fire Retirees Association of New York and Disabled American Veterans. Bob was a New York Yankees fan, and was an avid fisherman and hunter.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Shirley, who died on September 18, 2011, his sons, Tommy and Mark, and his four sisters. Surviving to cherish his memory is his daughter, Wendy (Greg) Conley of Syracuse; grandchildren, Sarah and Christopher; six great-grandchildren; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services: 9:15 a.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at the Maurer Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. in Christ the King Church, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated. Burial with military honors will be in Assumption Cemetery. Calling hours: 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, at the funeral home, 300 Second St., Liverpool.
