Richard B. Barnhill, 86, of Cazenovia, died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011, in Syracuse. Born in Forest Hills, N.Y., he resided in Cazenovia for over 40 years. Before joining the Newhouse faculty in 1966 as professor of television/radio/film, he was with WNBC-TV in New York City. A proponent of "reality education" he established internships in association with the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He was the 1990 Syracuse University Newhouse School Alumni Association Distinguished Honoree recipient. He served as a WWII pilot in the U.S. Navy.
He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Mary E. Barnhill. Surviving are daughters Carter, Mimi and Amy, son, Barney and granddaughter, Emily. Funeral Services were private.
