Ignatius “IG” DiBello, 85, of Clay, passed away at home on Dec. 3, 2011. He was born March 21, 1926, the son of the late Leonard and Isabella DiBello.
A native of Oneonta, New York, Ig was a graduate of Oneonta High School Class of 1943. He was a WWII Navy veteran, serving at the Battles of the Philippines and Okinawa. For his military service he was awarded the Navy Occupation Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.
He attended Hartwick College, a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity, and was a member of the football team and Hartwick’s first golf team. Graduating from SUNY Binghamton with a degree in electronics, he went to work for General Electric for 37 years, and was a member of GE’s 25 Year Club, the Foreman’s Association, and the GE Survivor’s Club.
A founding member and past president of the Clay Sportsman’s Club, Ig was an avid and accomplished hunter, fisher, golfer and bowler. He was a member of VFW North Syracuse Post 7290, and the American Legion Post 787 of Cicero.
Surviving are his wife, Elinor; his daughter Lorraine (Thomas Grier) DiBello of Clay and son John (Randi Mason) DiBello of Brooklyn; his granddaughters Kylynn Grier and Sara DiBello; his two sisters, Victoria Grodevant of Monroe, LA and Yolanda Carroll of New City, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, at Maurer Funeral Home Moyers Corners, 3541 Route 31, Baldwinsville. Funeral services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 3954 Route 31, Baldwinsville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Northern Onondaga Volunteer Ambulance, 4225 Buckley Rd., Liverpool, NY 13090.
