Angelo A. Locastro

Angelo Anthony Locastro ”Gog,” 93, passed away the morning of Monday Aug. 29, 2011, in his Manlius home surrounded by his family. He was born Aug. 31, 1917, in Cicero to Egidio and Francesca Locastro. Angelo is a WWII veteran, where he earned several medals including the bronze medal for his heroism. He served in the Army in the 349th Engineering Corps, a unit that was instrumental in the invasion of the Pacific Theatre, on both the Aleutian Islands and Okinawa. He was a recent graduate of Fayetteville–Manlius High School thanks to Operation Recognition.
Angelo loved gardening, was an avid SU and Yankee fan and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
When he returned home from the war, he owned and operated Fruit Land Produce Market with his brother and brother-in-law. He also worked in the construction business for many years before retiring.
Surviving is his wife Catherine Paone Locastro; his daughters Frances Locastro; Nina (Bruce) Ruppert; granddaughter Katherine (Colin) Holtz and grandson David Ruppert. He is also survived by his brother Samuel Locastro and sister Natalina Losurdo. He was predeceased by a son, James Locastro, his sisters, Antoinette Sorbello, Rose Manino and Angie Scerbo.
Services: 9:15 a.m. Wednesday Aug. 31 at Newell-Fay, Manlius Chapel and 10 a.m. at St. Ann’s Church, Manlius. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Minoa.
