George J. Arnold

George J. Arnold of Syracuse passed away on Friday Aug. 26, 2011 at James Square Nursing Home surrounded by family. He was born in New York City and raised as an orphan. He served with the U.S. Army during WWII in Africa, Italy and France with the 9th Infantry Division. George was a lifelong Yankees fan and loved ushering at Yankee Stadium in the 50’s before moving to Syracuse. He worked for Special Deliveries at the U S Postal Service in Syracuse until he retired in 1986.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years Angela (D’Agostino), children Frank (Cheryl) of Plano, TX, Philip (Diane Green Pope) of East Syracuse, and Barbara Wagner of Newport Beach, CA, grandchildren Kimberly, Brian, George, Lorraine, Robin, Lisa, Tyler and Brian.
George was always appreciative of the wonderful care he received at the Syracuse VA Hospital. A special thanks to the staff at James Square Nursing Home for making him feel so comfortable in his second home.
Calling hours: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday Aug. 31 at the Maurer Funeral Home, 300 Second St., Liverpool. Funeral services: 10 a.m. Thursday Sept. 1 at the funeral home with burial to follow in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
